The Lockhart River Indigenous Knowledge Centre (IKC) was the very first IKC to open, on 23 April 2002. The Lockhart River community is located 800 km north of Cairns and is known for its strong cultural identity, as expressed through its dancers and the internationally-renowned Lockhart River Art Gang. The IKC operates as a vibrant community hub in the town centre and is owned and operated by Lockhart River Aboriginal Shire Council with support from State Library Queensland.
