Borrow and Request

Library members can borrow collections and resources from anywhere in the Rural Libraries Queensland and Indigenous Knowledge Centre network.


Not a member? Join online or in person at any RLQ library or IKC.


How to borrow


  • Visit your local RLQ library or IKC and provide proof of name and residential address.
  • See our suggested forms of identification.
  • If you are under 18 and wish to borrow, you are required to register in person with your parent or guardian, who must show proof of their name and residency.



Terms and conditions


When becoming a member, you agree to:


  • Return items on time and in good condition and understand that my borrowing privileges may temporarily suspended if items are not returned or damaged.
  • Observe all regulations, ordinances, by-laws and rules, and respect the library spaces, library staff and other library users.
  • Confirm that if I am under 18 my parent or guardian will accept the conditions of library membership and accept responsibility for my library membership including items accessed or borrowed.
  • Use online resources in accordance with the terms of use specified for each service or application, as outlined in the license agreements between vendors or publishers and State Library of Queensland.


Additional terms and conditions of may apply at each local library or IKC.



Loan limit


  • RLQ and IKC members can borrow up to 20 items per library card
  • Tourist Members can borrow up to 4 items per library card



How to renew


If not reserved by another person, your loans can be renewed in the following ways:




Overdue loans


You will receive the following overdue notices:


  • Overdue — 7 days overdue
  • Second overdue — 14 days overdue
  • Final overdue — 21 days overdue



Where to return loans


  • Loans can be returned to any RLQ library or IKC regardless of where they were borrowed.
  • You can return material 24/7 via after hours chutes available at most libraries.

How to request


You can reserve items from anywhere in the RLQ and IKC network and collect them from your preferred pick-up location.


You can reserve items anywhere within the RLQ and IKC network in person, library catalogue or the QLDLibraries App.


You will be notified once an item is ready for collection, and the pickup location.


Placing reserves or interlibrary loans is not available for Tourist Members.



How to suggest items for purchase


If the network does not have the title you want, you can suggest it for purchase if it’s recently published. To search and recommend titles for the collection log in to Suggestions.


You can recommend and reserve up to 4 new titles each calendar month.


If the title you want was published over 2 years ago, your RLQ library or IKC can request an interlibrary loan from outside the network, including State Library of Queensland.
